The Orthopaedic and Trauma Foundation Nepal (OTFN) is a registered nongovernmental organization working in Janakpurdham, Nepal since 1993. The foundation is dedicated to reducing deformity and disability by improving the care of musculoskeletal injuries and providing training to the health personnel in Nepal.

In the last 21 years, OTFN has focused on providing primary orthopaedic & trauma care to the poor and needy patients, providing primary care training to the local health personnel, creating public awareness for prevention of common disabling orthopaedic & traumatic conditions and raising local support and external help to achieve the goals. This organization has been involved in conducting several orthopaedic treatment camps, training workshops and rehabilitation works. The OTFN is in process of establishing a non-for-profit trauma hospital with suitable facility for proper trauma care, rehabilitation and training.

  1. To provide Appropriate & Trauma Care to the needy people of Janakpur region.
  2. To provide basic/primary care Training to the available health personnel.
  3. To create public awareness for prevention & reduction of common physical disability
  1. Orthopaedic Training / Workshop: for Health Personnel: Since last 15 yrs with support from WOC-UK & AO Alliance Foundation.WOC-UK
  2. Orthopaedic Camps: This organization is involved in this programme since last 15 yrs and receiving help/support from Impact-International/Nepal for organizing treatment camps at Nepalganj and Janakpur.
  3. Orthopaedic Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre: This was established at Janakpur with support from Lions International/Janakpur, Association for the Disabled and the Red Cross Society (it worked for only few years).
  1. Janakpur Trauma Hospital: for Hospital Care, Training of Personnel & Rehabilitation of Disabled.
  2. Education Program: Starting of formal Educational Programs in Orthopaedics & Traumatology.
  3. National/International Seminars/Symposia/Courses.
  4. Fellowship Program: Exchange of Personnel for Training/Observation to different setup.
  5. Public Awareness for Prevention of Accidents on the Roads/Household/Workplace.
  6. Evolution and Adoption of Appropriate Techniques of treatment and training.
  7. Rehabilitation Center: for production of Orthotics & Prosthetic Appliances, Rehabilitation of physically disabled.

Orthopaedic & Trauma Foundation, Nepal has signed MoU with Ministry of Health Nepal on behalf of AO Alliance Foundation, Switzerland to improve fracture care in Nepal through local capacity build up.

Governance

An Elected Body from the general members of this NGO governs this organization and its activities for a fixed term of 2 years and the Orthopaedic Hospital has a separate Development Board for conducting regular activities. There is also inputs from the Govt. and Non-Govt. bodies for proper functioning of these governing bodies and its funds/resources are constantly monitored by local Administrator and Social Welfare Council, Nepal.
